ABSTRACT - Harmful oral habits are a repetitive movements of certain muscle groups that do not meet the physiological function, but lead to satisfaction. They are established most often by 1 year of age, less than 1 to 2 years of age and if they persist after 3 years of age can negatively affect the development of the occlusion, as the consequences can be severe and lasting. These bad habits are non-nutritive sucking behaviors (finger, pacifier, lips or objects), nail biting, self-harming habits and the parafunctions are oral breathing, improper swallowing and bruxism. The aim of this publication is to consider malocclusions in primary dentition due to bad habits and incorrect functions, because knowing the proper growth and development of teeth and jaws form a basis for timely diagnosis, prevention and early orthodontic treatment in primary dentition.
