APPLICATION OF THE COGNITIVE MODELS IN DENTAL PRACTICE

ABSTRACT - The motivation of patients to maintain good oral hygiene habits is the key in achieving good oral health. Different psychological models of modifing risky behavior of patients have been developed. In the case of oral health promotion these models are accepted difficult from patients as most oral diseases are not fatal. One of the most common are the cognitive models of self-regulation of behavior. In Bulgaria there are no data for their applications in improving personal efficiency of maintenance of oral hygiene. The purpose of this publication is to explore and present the advantages and disadvantages of various cognitive models. A study of the available literature in the database Pub Med was performed. The following keywords are used- dental care, oral heath, motivation.
