ABSTRACT: The article examines the history, experience and established traditions in the research and educational activities of the Department of Political Science at the University of National and World Economy. The position is defended that the role of the humanities in general and political science in particular is extremely important for overcoming the contemporary crisis of the university as an institution.
Based on the classical understanding of the university's mission, the authors reflect on the questions: Are modern universities in crisis?; What is the nature of the crisis?; What are the manifestations and causes of this crisis?; Is political science in crisis?.
The main dimensions of the department's activities - research, educational and practical - are presented. The experience of the Department of Political Science in implementing the mission of political science in the process of developing students as cultured people, good professionals and good citizens is analyzed.
