INVESTIGATION OF THE ORAL HYGIENE-RELATED HABITS OF PATIENTS WITH CHRONIC PERIODONTITIS

РЕЗЮМЕ - Oral hygiene is a risk factor for periodontal disease. Plaque control in patients with periodontal disease is the key in their prevention. In Bulgaria there are not data for the investigation of oral hygiene–related habits among patients with periodontal disease.The purpose of this publication is to explore and present the oral hygiene-relate habits of patients with chronic periodontitis. A pilot research was made among 228 diagnosed patients with periodontitis visiting the Department of Periodontology, Faculty of Dental Medicine, Medical University of Plovdiv, Bulgaria in relation to their treatment. All patients were surveyed using a questionnaire specially designed for the study. The questionnaire includes issues concerning- the type of mounthwash water, the frequency of replacement toothbrush, the frequency of scaling, the frequency of visiting the dentist. Oral hygiene of the participants is poor. They are applied traditional means of cleaning teat h- brush and tooth paste.The mayority of respondents do not use commercially avaible additional funds for the removal of plaque and tartar. They not scaling the tartar regulary.
